The audio you probably noticed at the top of this post is a recording of me playing my own version of my favorite hymn, Be Thou My Vision. And the crickets chirping at the start of the recording? They’re not a cute sound effect I added! As I was playing, the windows were open, it was the evening, and…there just so happened to be crickets hopping around outside. Convenient, eh?😉
You also may have noticed that the recording is not top-quality. That’s because it’s really not. Alas, I do not happen to own a personal recording studio! I recorded this with my old Canon camera, uploaded it onto my laptop, and I had my recording!
You also may have noticed that in my version of Be Thou My Vision, I only play three verses, when there are actually four. What is my excuse-er, very good reason for this? It’s simple: I forgot about the fourth verse as I was playing. But I hope you can forgive me for that little mistake, because I did remember to play the first three verses, right? So I got three quarters of the job done!
And now, perhaps you are wondering: “Why did Annie make a post with a recording of her playing an old hymn, forget the fourth verse in the recording, and then fill the rest of her post explaining it?” Well, I made this post because I think that Be Thou My Vision is a very peaceful, calming hymn, and while reading this has probably not been very calming, I’m hoping that listening to the recording will be! Whether we admit it or not, in this crazy, you’re-running-a-marathon-that-you-didn’t-sing-up-for life, we all need to be calmed down at times.
And that’s why I made this specific post. To calm you, to calm my cat…and to calm myself.

Good piano playing Annie.
