Conversations With My Dragon: Explained

Welcome to Conversations with My Dragon! This category might seem a little confusing for some, so I thought I’d give you all an explanation. In Conversations with My Dragon, the “dragon” is…me. Or rather, it’s my alternate personality.

I didn’t even know that I had an alternate personality until one day I realized that I argue with myself…a lot. And when I argue with myself, it’s as though there are two different voices inside my head: the sensible, let’s-use-our-brains-please part, and the slightly chaotic I’m-going-to-say-whatever-I-want-however-I-want part.
In speech, I usually default to the first part, so to most people who know me, it doesn’t seem like I have an alternate personality at all! Which is actually a good thing, because my dragon (which is what I’ve decided to call the other part of my mind, because a dragon seemed to be the best description for it-I think of dragons as rather arrogant, loud, and chaotic!) would probably overwhelm them pretty quickly.

One day, after a long walk that had been spent arguing with myself about whether or not to write a novel (my default self thought it might be a good idea; my dragon said absolutely not), I went to my room, opened up my laptop, and decided to try writing out the argument. I couldn’t remember it word for word, so I filled in the blank places with more imagined dialogue. It was actually a lot of fun for me, and I found myself doing this more and more. I have to admit that sometimes, I got so caught up in the “argument” that I forgot I was only arguing with myself, and not another person!

Why did I make the decision to add Conversations with My Dragon to my blog? Because I was writing out these arguments so often, and I thought it seemed like a such a waste not to share them with anyone. This category of my blog is mostly a creative outlet…and okay, yes, so is the rest of my blog, but this area is even more so! And this way, I get to write out dialogue without having to write a novel, which my dragon still thinks would be a horrible idea doomed to failure.

And you know what? This category of my blog does count as intelligent. Do you know why? Because it’s giving me a place to channel my creativity and inner chaos. And that is a very intelligent cause! Some people use their chaos in a wild way, not giving any thought to what they’re doing. But chaos can be good. You just have to use it correctly! Which is what I’m doing here.

If anyone finds this section of my blog too weird, then spare yourself any grouching about how much you hate it, and do this: don’t read it. It’s as simple as that.

P.S. I want to let you all know that I do not consider my dragon as another person or being of any kind. My dragon is simply a part of my personality that I have given a name to!
