I’m just going to come right out and say it (no beating around the bush here!). I have had enough of Marvel. I’ve had enough of the comics, the movies, the video games, the coloring books, the posters…all of it. But unlike myself, I’ve noticed that most people are quite the opposite! They can’t seem to get enough of Marvel, which, honestly, is sad! But really, I think that Marvel has gone too far with the advertising and the merchandise. It’s EVERYWHERE. And I mean everywhere!
You walk into Walmart?
“Hmm, oh, what a nice selection of towels…wait a second…there’s a towel with The Hulk on it. Lovely. I do find the idea of a big, ugly green guy staring at me from my bathroom wall appealing.”
You walk into Super Store?
“WHY IS SPIDER-MAN PLASTERED ON EVERYTHING?”
You walk into your local library? Marvel comic books! A random grocery store? Marvel-themed bags of candy (whyyyyyyyyyyy?)! You’re online? Oh, look, there’s a news article about the millionth Marvel release that apparently, we should all care SO MUCH about! And there’s another one! And…another one!
Everywhere is a whirlwind of Marvel and its wild number of different characters. And guess what? Every last one of those characters is fictional. Oh, yes, that’s right!
-Spider-Man
-Captain America
-Iron-Man
-The Hulk
-Black Panther
All of those characters listed above (and more!) are completely, one-hundred percent fictional. They do not exist, and they never will. But Marvel fans care about them with a passion.
Marvel: “You’ll never guess what Peter Parker is doing now!”
Marvel Fans: “What?! WHAT?!! YOU MUST TELL US OR WE WILL LITERALLY DIE.”
Me: “This is ridiculous.”
Marvel: “Too bad! We’re going to shove it in your face anyway!”
It’s outrageous, really!
People argue about this random guy’s healing factor and that random guy’s dad, and blah blah blah…remind me why we care about that again?
I wouldn’t mind it so much if they were talking about real people and real events, but wasting hours discussing comic book characters? Oh, please. We’re more mature than that! It’s fine and all if you want to talk about Marvel for a little while-everyone loves talking about their favorite movie characters. But going on and on and on for ages is just too much.
There has to be a limit. And that limit was reached, ignored, and left in the dust long ago. We need to go back, find that limit, fix it, and be intelligent in how we spend our conversations. Have I made my point yet? Is everything clear? If not, I could go on for a few thousand more words…but I’m not in the mood to write a full-length novel right now, so you’re lucky today!
