My “Vacation”

Thursday-Dunwell Family Acreage

Ahem. Today’s chaos report, brought to you by Addie Dunwell.
This morning, Eddie left on an overnight trip with our grandparents! He won’t be back until tomorrow. After he walked out the door with grandma around 9:40am, this is what happened:
Dad: “We should have a moment of silence to honor the temporary departure of our brother, Eddie”
There were several seconds of silence (Melvin may or may not have wiped away a tear, but if he did, I’m guessing it was just for dramatic effect). But then…I couldn’t hold back my joy any longer.
Me: “Oh, happy day! Thank you, Lord!”
Dad: “Addie…”
What? I had every right to cheer! You cannot possibly know the stress and annoyance I endure because of Eddie! And now I’m finally getting a break from him (even if it IS only for one night)! I am justified in my actions.

After lunch, Melvin and Zoe went outside to play. I came out to see what they were up to after a while, and found them on the driveway with their bike’s upside down. They were sitting beside them, pushing the pedals, and making the tires spin in the gravel. I watched them for a minute, then thought of something.
“Um, guys, you do realize that you’re shredding your bike tires, don’t you?”. Melvin looked up at me, then at Zoe.
“ZOE! This was your idea! Now my bike’s wrecked!!”. He stood his bike up and attempted to push it forward, but so much of the rubber on the tires had been worn off, that it barely moved. And what did Zoe do then? She laughed! I told her that she shouldn’t be laughing at Melvin, because her bike was wrecked, too.
“No, it’s not!”. She continued laughing. “This is Mary’s bike, not mine! So it’s her bike that’s wrecked, and mine is still in perfect condition! See? There’s nothing to worry about!” I rolled my eyes.
“Except for, perhaps, the fact that you just ruined Mary’s nearly brand-new bike…and so who do you think is going to have to pay for a new one?”
Zoe stopped laughing after that. Siblings! They just never stop to think things through, do they? When I was Melvin and Zoe’s age…I did pretty much the same sort of thing. Only, I did it with more style! Just like I do with everything else. Anyway, moving on!

After supper, we all went outside to pick apples, to “bond” over work, as Dad put it. We picked apples…but we also threw some, too. And maybe we threw a couple more than just “some”. But we did get a lot of apples gathered in the end (along with plenty of bruises. Apples are HARD), once Mom and Dad got things under control.
I have enjoyed my vacation from Eddie so far. Could you tell? Did you notice how much fun I’ve had today? (this is me trying to be positive. In reality, I’m ready to fall apart. HELP.🥺😩)
